Enbridge Sponsorship Removed from Birkie 2021
Birkie 2021 Dissolves Enbridge Sponsorship Agreement amidst Pressure from Community

The Slumberland American Birkiebeiner, also known as the “Birkie” is one of the most well-known x-country ski events in North America and recently dissolved its relationship with Enbridge Energy, which had been displayed as a “sponsor” of the event up until today.

The Birkie Community issued a statement about the dissolution of the agreement, pointing to the fact that, “Recently, we heard from some in the Birkie community regarding our relationship with Enbridge Energy, Superior, WI.” as one of the primary drivers of the decision.

The Line 3 delay & what it means for #sNoLine3!

By now there’s a good chance you’ve heard the news that “Line 3 has been delayed a year” – that means there’s no more need to get involved with #sNoLine3… Right? WRONG!

The updated permitting & construction timeline suggests November/December 2019 as when Enbridge foresees the regulatory process coming to a close in Minnesota. Hmm… what happens around November/December every year? Any ideas? Ski & Snowboard season!

#sNoLine3 is more important now than ever. We must #sNoLine3 hard through the end of this season, get as many humans as possible involved in the campaign and hit the slopes for winter 2019/2020 with thousands and thousands and thousands of people raising awareness about Line 3. IF Enbridge DOES try and start building at that time, the snow sport community will be ready.

So, what changes with the Line 3 delay announcement? Not much, really.

Enbridge could still begin construction at any time, with or without read more

Mother Nature has been pounding us Minnesotan’s with snow. Does this mean the climate ISN’T changing? No! Quite the opposite!

According to this recent article via MPRNews, Minnesota has broken its record for the most snowfall in February, ever. Increased precipitation and erratic weather behaviour is one of the things we’re going to see more of in Minnesota due to the changing climate. As the atmospheric temperature rises globally, more water vapor can be stored in the air which means when it does rain or storm, more will come down.

Anywho – with all this wonderful snow there’s really only one thing Minnesotans should be doing with their spare time: Making #sNoLine3 Snow Art in public spaces!

What do you mean “snow art?”

We’re talking snow-people (the gender-neutral approach to the traditional snowMAN), snow-sculptures, ice carvings, hand-drawn “#sNoLine3’s” in the snow… Putting up some #sNoLine3 snow-art in your own yard is great, but imagine if there were #sNoLine3 snowpeople all across the state in public places! Now we’re talkin!

Get out and make some art! If you’re on social media, capture a photo of your #sNoLine3 Snow Art, tag @sNoLine3 and post it to our facebook, twitter, or instagram with the hashtag #sNoLine3. Twice a week, we’re going to review all of the #sNoLine3 snow art we see on the interwebs and pic our favorite. Whoever posts the best photo will be offered 5 free 2″x2″ #sNoLine3 stickers that we’ll put in an envelope and send (if you don’t want the stickers, that’s totally cool – no pressure!).

Bonus points will go to #sNoLine3 snow art that is high visibility places!

That’s all for now – we can’t wait to see what you post!

    And…. We’re officially live!

Alrighty snowsports fam – we’ve officially launched this site!

Over the course of the coming days and weeks we’ll be getting the word out about #sNoLine3 across the social media landscape adn we look forward to getting people like you involved with the campaign.

Here’s a little video we put together to help explain the #sNoLine3 effort – feel free to take a look!

    WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW

We’re about to submit preliminary order of the 2″x2″ stickers that will be distributed throughout the snowsports community for use in promoting the #sNoLine3 effort. If you’re trying to support this effort & want to make a huge impact RIGHT NOW please purchase 10, 20, maybe even 100 stickers via seekjoy’s community marketplace (Click to View 2″x2″ #sNoLine3 Stickers). We’re hoping to get the order in early this week!

The stickers will be the primary win-win tool we’ll be using to sustain this grassroots campaign financially. The more stickers get sold, the more the message gets out & the more we can do within this short time span before spring comes (when Enbridge might be starting construction on Line 3). For the time being here, if you enter the discount code “#StopLine3” on checkout with your sticker order the price will drop from $2/each to $1. We’re going to delete these last 2 sentences on February 22nd 🙂

If you’re into nordic skiing, alpine skiing or snowboarding and you’d like to be involved in organzing with us PLEASE shoot us an email to snoline3@gmail.com. We are looking, primarily, for #sNoLine3 ambassadors at each of the ski areas in Minnesota and if that sounds like something you’d like to do, reach out!
